Closing ‘Noises Off’ & Farewell MCT!
Midland Community Theatre’s production of ‘Noises Off’ came to a bittersweet end on May 7th. During tech rehearsals, I taught Stephanie (the stage manager in-training) how to call the show and, after observing me calling, she called multiple tech rehearsals and performances. We had around 180 sound cues (mostly microphone tracking), some light cues, and scene change/curtain sequences to call. The set turned out beautiful - I painted the walls a muave color with blue and gray texture and chose a warm wood grain. Despite the massive size, the set was incredibly easy to revolve. Audiences responded to the performances with reverberant laughter and standing ovations. It was gratifying to see our production receive an overwhelmingly positive response!
With the closing and strike of ‘Noises Off’ my contract at MCT is complete. I have thoroughly enjoyed my two years as a Production Assistant. I had the opportunity to stage manage, paint, and work on lighting for many productions and rentals. MCT was my first job out of college, and I was lucky to be employed throughout the pandemic in a safe manner. I feel like I grew a lot as a theatre artist; I am now a much more confident stage manager and painter. Thank you, Midland Community Theatre!
