Alaina Galasso is a freelance stage manager and scenic artist currently based in Dallas, Texas. Originally from Austin, her passion for theatre began early, in an elementary school production of Seussical in which she was a backstage crew member dressed as Thing #5. Alaina always loved storytelling and discovered that theatre was an immensely impactful form of it. In high school she was introduced to stage management and felt like she found her place in the theatre world, as a master communicator, organizer, and leader.
Education
Alaina went on to study stage management at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Michigan’s program emphasizes well-rounded theatre technicians, so Alaina took courses in scenery, costumes, lighting, and sound, as well as in stage management. During her time at school, she worked on many University and student-run productions and was a work-study student in the paint and electric shops. She found a second passion for scenic painting as an outlet to express her creativity. Alaina also worked with multiple theatre companies in Texas and Michigan during her summer breaks. In 2020 Alaina graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in Theatre Design and Production and a minor in Creative Writing. Go Blue!
Current Position & Future Goals
Alaina currently works at Dallas Children’s Theatre as a Stage Management Apprentice. She works in both their Production and Education departments. She aspires to one day be a Production Stage Manager for a regional theatre or on a touring production. Alaina is thrilled to be working in what she loves, making art wherever she is, and cannot wait to see where her career takes her!
Hobbies & Interests
Outside of theatre, Alaina enjoys spending her free time catching up with her friends and family across the world. She also loves reading (particularly Stephen King and Jodi Picoult novels), watching television shows and movies, listening to rock music, trying new restaurants and coffee shops, and going for walks or doing yoga. She is a dog lover and has a pet-sitting business in the Dallas community.
