Closing ‘Cinderella’
Production photo by the Oilfield Photographer
Last weekend MCT closed our month-long run of Cinderella! A majority of the performances sold out to very receptive audiences. I was able to take a break from running the show one weekend to watch it with my mother, and it was amazing to see all of the families (especially the little princesses) enchanted by our production.
Cinderella showed me how far I’ve come as a scenic artist. A year ago, painting a show of this scale would’ve felt like a daunting task that I’m not sure I could’ve pulled off. 1 marble floor, 6 tree portals, 1 throne, 4 wagon units, 1 carriage, 3 horses, 2 castle walls and 1 grand staircase later, and I can now see how much I’ve improved in speed and technique. I’m extremely proud of how the scenery turned out.
Being an ASM for Cinderella was rewarding as well, especially because it was the biggest production I’ve worked on in about two years. We had a rotating crew of volunteers, so each night was a challenge to ensure all scene changes went smoothly. It’s a great feeling to reach the final weekend where running the show is muscle memory.
Farewell Cinderella - thank you for showing me that impossible things are happening every day!
